If you’re looking for a snack that the kids are going to love but is also a little healthier then you’re going to love these Chocolate Chip Cake Bars.
Cake Bars are brilliant as they’re so easy to make. There’s no faffing around with muffin tins or cases. The dry ingredients are mixed together in one bowl and the wet ingredients in a jug.
Mix them together, add the chocolate chips and then the cake mixture goes straight into a tin. So quick and easy!

Once cooked and cooled, the cake bars are cut into 16 squares, the perfect single serve portion for kids.
INGREDIENT SUBSTITUTIONS
Flour – The plain flour can be substituted for wholemeal flour or any type of gluten free flour too.
Butter– This can be substituted for coconut oil.
Yogurt – Non-dairy yogurt will work fine.
Honey – Use maple syrup or agave syrup instead.
Egg – I haven’t tried using an egg replacer in this recipe so can’t say that it would definitely work. However if you try it please do let me know.
Apple Sauce – This can be substituted for one small mashed banana.

STORING & FREEZING
These cake bars can be kept in an airtight container for 2 days. They can also be frozen. Place them individually on a plate or tray and flash freeze for 1 hour. Transfer into freezer bags or a freezer container. This will stop them from sticking together.
Defrost at room temperature in 2-3 hours. You can put them straight into a lunch box from the freezer and they will be defrosted by lunchtime.
