Cheese & Tomato Pasta – Hot Lunch Recipe – My Fussy Eater

A simple but tasty Cheese & Tomato Pasta, perfect to add to food flasks for a hot lunch for kids at school or nursery

With the kids all back to school this week I thought I would share some easy but filling lunch ideas that they can take to school or nursery.

Now I’m aware that different schools and nurseries have varying rules regarding packed lunch. Not all allow hot food to be brought in from home. If this is the case for you then next week I’ll be sharing cold lunch ideas so be sure to pop back for those.

This first step is to heat up the food flask. Add boiling water, close the lid and leave it for 15 minutes to warm up.

The food flask I’m using here is from Mummy Cooks but there’s lots of different brands on the market.

Whilst the flask is heating up, cook some pasta in a saucepan on the hob.

In another saucepan add a tin of chopped tomatoes, dried oregano, smoked paprika and a little salt and pepper. Simmer on low for 10 minutes.

I like the Mutti brand of chopped tomatoes are they are very finely chopped so you don’t get any large chunks of tomato that some kids don’t like.

When the pasta is cooked, drain it and then mix in the tomato sauce.

Remove the water from the food flask.

Add the pasta to the flask, layered with some grated cheese.

Add the lid straight away to keep in the heat and don’t forget to pack a fork too!

I pack some extras such as chopped fruit and veggies and maybe some chocolate rice cakes and mini biscuits too. But again this will depend on what your school allow.
